Winter Raptors 2015

Pacific Northwest Birds of Prey (and Prey)
Great Blue Herron having a bad hair (feather) day... Immature Red Tail hawk doesn't seem bothered by me being across the field. Immature Bald eagle facing the setting sun and stiff breeze. Low winter sun does a good job of highlighting this Bald Eagle. A rough Legged hawk perched where I saw one all of last year, but this one is banded. Perhaps the same bird? Nearly mature Bald Eagle.
One afternoon, every tree top in Edison, WA had an eagle perched on top. In its usual location, my favorite Rough Legged hawk. Immature Red Tail hawk (yellow eyes) was perched by the road. I snapped this through the open window while driving home. Mature Red Tail hawk must have just finished a meal. Stunning. A squadron of geese coming in for a landing. Snow Geese from the artic. It's an amazing sound when they lift and start circling the fields.
Picking out an individual to photograph is harder than it would seem. Detailed close-up of an eagle with a dirty bill from feeding. Snow Geese circle with Mt. Baker and the Sisters Range in the distance. I never tire of taking headshots of Bald Eagles... even on a windy day. San Juan Island has its share of resident and wintering eagles. A nice look at the underside torso of this huge raptor, but not a technically good image.
One of a dozen we saw up by Roache Harbor. Peregrine Falcon fledge on the Cape Foulweather cliff near Depoe Bay, OR.
